We’re proud to offer some of the best eyelash extensions in Los Gatos and the Bay Area. We haven’t earned that distinction without learning a lot, so we’re happy to share our insider knowledge with those who are interested in our procedures.
Applied in a 1:1 ratio. It is used to create a naturally enhanced look, focusing on lengthening lashes. Flat based lashes are available to create a darker, eyeliner look. Fills take place every 2-3 weeks depending on shedding cycle and look desired.
Applied in a 3-6:1 ratio. A thinner, lighter extension is applied in a fan and placed on the natural lash so that it wraps around to increase retention and maintain the health and integrity of the natural growth. LASH Q & A
Will Eyelash Extensions Ruin My Natural Lashes?
This is a question we occasionally field at Voluminous. The answer is ‘Not if they’re applied well’. You can rest assured that, at our beauty boutique, we know what we’re doing. We’re qualified estheticians with years of experience. We do advise that you don’t rub your eyes or pull on your extensions, though, as this can lead to losing lashes, including natural ones.
Can You Still Wear Mascara with Eyelash Extensions?
While eyelash extensions already go a long way to making lashes look great, some people want to use mascara to accompany them. That’s fine in small amounts. Ideally, you’ll use mascara specifically formulated to work with extensions, and apply it only to the tips. Make sure to use an oil-free makeup remover, and if you’re applying eyeshadow or eyeliner, be sure to use an oil-free variety and remove it every day.
Can I Swim with Eyelash Extensions?
Broadly, yes. It’s best not to subject your extensions to any source of humidity for at least 24 hours, and you should avoid wearing oil-based makeup while you swim, but you can hit the beach or the lake with extensions, no problem. Be careful if you’re going to spend a lot of time at the pool, though. Excessive chlorine can damage the lashes.
How Do I Protect My Lashes?
Common mistakes that people make when wearing eyelash extensions include rubbing their eyes. This is often reflexive, for example, when you get out of the shower. The best way to dry your eyes after bathing is to blot them with a towel. You can also set a hairdryer to a low setting (so it doesn’t damage the adhesive) and blow dry your lashes. If you do this from the bottom up, it makes the lashes curlier and fluffier. For the first day, don’t get your extensions wet or expose them to a humid environment: this includes spas and saunas, as well as pools. Wash your lashes regularly to keep them clean. It’s best to use a product specially formulated for cleaning eyelash extensions.
Can I Wear Fake Lashes with Eyelash Extensions?
While you might be interested in creating an even more dramatic look for a single night, it’s generally not worth combining fake lashes with eyelash extensions. This is because the adhesive required to affix fake lashes can potentially seep into the extensions and create more problems down the line. Weakening your extensions, reducing their lifespan, and even potentially harming your natural lashes is generally not worth it. Besides, with lash extensions from Voluminous this lush and beautiful, you’re not likely to need them anyway...
