Voluminous offers a fantastic range of permanent makeup options for a variety of purposes. We are proud to provide the people of Los Gatos and the Bay Area with permanent makeup. People often have questions about what permanent makeup entails exactly. We can answer some of the common questions people come to us with.
How Long Does Permanent Makeup Last?
It depends on the type of permanent makeup, but gradual fading will happen. Some varieties will endure between 3 and 5 years, while others will last up to a decade. It’s recommended that you have touch-ups periodically, which will also give you the opportunity to alter the hue slightly. It’s recommended to come in for a touch-up between four and six weeks, in order to ensure that the color stays strong.
Why Does Permanent Makeup Fade?
Permanent makeup is made of pigment and is subject to the elements, much like anything else colored by pigment. Things like exfoliating the skin in the colored area or doing other processes like chemical peels can affect the pigment beneath. Be sure to apply suncream when you’re exposing your permanent makeup to direct sunlight. Certain types of medication can affect the speed with which permanent makeup fades. You may want to discuss with your doctor if you would prefer medication that does not interfere with your cosmetics.
How Safe Is Permanent Makeup?
Permanent makeup is never 100% risk-free, but you can ameliorate the risks involved by only working with certified experts. The riskier varieties are blush and eyeshadow. Pigments can cause allergic reactions, and it’s difficult to remove them once embedded beneath the skin. Luckily, the permanent makeup procedures we typically provide at Voluminous are low-risk, and as qualified estheticians with years of experience, you’d be hard pressed to find better people to work with.
Does Getting Permanent Makeup Hurt?
People sometimes hear phrases like ‘cosmetic tattooing’ and get squeamish. They worry about needles, pain, and other uncomfortable elements of the process. However, permanent makeup by Voluminous can be made more comfortable. Our beauty boutique has everything we need to reduce any pain or discomfort the procedure can cause, including topical numbing cream. The more uncomfortable procedures are those involving the lips, such as permanent lip pigmentation. At Voluminous, we specialize in repigmentation and 3D reconstruction of areolae and nipples.
Is There a Way to Remove Permanent Makeup?
Permanent makeup is difficult to remove. Laser therapy can eradicate the pigment, but it is uncomfortable and can lead to scarring. It’s also expensive and may take several sessions, depending on the size of the area with artificial pigmentation. That’s why we at Voluminous are at pains to make sure that you will be happy with the results, and that you experience a minimum of color drift or shift in pigmentation.
We hope you will consider getting your permanent makeup from us at Voluminous! If you have any more questions, we are happy to answer them.
